A NEW and innovative view of the town of Llanfair Caereinion is being presented in a new exhibition combining video and photo painting, opening on Friday, April 5.

'The Llanfair Photographer' features work by Paul Walker who lives in Llanfair Caereinion and has been exhibiting and publishing portrait and film stills photography since 2013.

This is his first exhibition being held at the Oriel Strongroom Gallery run by local artist Jacqueline Dunsford, and located inside Bank Antiques and Decorative Salvage at The Old Bank, Market Square.

It can be seen until April 28, with Paul hosting a reception planned for Sunday, April 14.

Admission to the exhibition is free and it includes a short video of a conversation filmed with local luminary Emyr Davies, now aged 91, who gives an informative and amusing narrative to a series of photographic paintings of local scenes and views inspired by Dr W.T.R. Pryce’s photographic archive book, 'The Photographer in Rural Wales'.

“In the last couple of years, I have developed a style of photography I call photo painting,” said Paul.

“I try to photograph in a simple way leaving space for the subjects and employing rich primary colours which give the images a sense of character and depth.

“My passion for photography began when I purchased my first DSLR for a family visit to Australia back in 2012.

“I returned to London and began a career initially starting out with portrait studio work and then as a film stills photographer.

“In 2017 we moved to Mid Wales and we have been learning rural skills and taking images of the wonderful people and animals that make up our agricultural landscape,” added Paul.
