MEMBERS and senior Powys County Council officers spent a morning brainstorming on how “transforming” council services will happen.

Monday, April 1, was an opportunity for councillors to discuss different ways of delivering council services as PCC looks to become more streamlined and efficient in the future.

Transformation director, Vanessa Young, who only just started her job at PCC a week earlier, said: “Transformation is about doing things very differently, and it’s about doing things across the whole of the organisation.

“We’re pleased that we have a transformation programme in place and you will be hearing a lot about some really ambitious and strategic programmes within that.

“There are these key programmes and do a number of other things.

“The first is concentrate on digital transformation so through all of these programmes we need to be looking at digital first.

“In our personal lives and the population as a whole we have changed significantly the way we use technology.

“We also need to make sure we are looking at performance management and be absolutely focussed on the services we are providing as we try and do these big change projects.

“The third element is workforce. They are our greatest asset and we need to make sure that we are investing in them and make sure they have the ability to be able to respond as society continues to change.

“All this needs to be done through the lens of the Future Generations Wellbeing Act, and make it absolutely part of our focus.”

Ms Young added: “Some of these programmes will take years to deliver,  and the work involved and the difficult decisions that will need to be taken to progress them.”

PCC head of strategy, performance and transformation, Emma Palmer, added: “We have some serious information to share with you.”

Ms Palmer added: “We wanted to make it far more interactive than just listening in the chamber and  to a few voices.”
