A Newtown food firm was buzzing after being honoured at a national awards ceremony held at the Senedd last week.

Hilltop Honey bagged the award for enterprise at the St David's awards ceremony and dinner, held at the Senedd, Cardiff Bay on Thursday March 21.

The St David Awards are an annual Government awards scheme which recognizes exceptional achievements by Welsh citizens within Wales, the UK and globally.

They are the highest accolades that the Welsh Government confers on its civilians. Individuals and organisations were shortlisted for the 2019 awards in a total of nine categories.

Lowri Jones, Marketing Manager, representing Hilltop Honey said she was "immensely proud" and offered her thanks to the firm's managing director Scott Davies.

“Being in the Senedd last night, I was filled with immense levels of pride. I felt so privileged to be surrounded by such phenomenal individuals and pillars within the Welsh community," she said.

"Hilltop Honey is a story of both strength and tenacity, championing exponential growth over the last 8 years. On behalf of all the team at Hilltop Honey, I would like to say thank you to the Welsh community for recognising Hilltop Honey’s efforts within the food and drink industry but, ultimately, thank you to Scott Davies. Thank you for taking chances on us, noticing our talents and letting us share this journey with you. Diolch Scott.”

First Minister, Mark Drakeford AM/AC added: “The winners at this evening’s event are a true credit to your families, friends, communities, and to Wales as a whole. Many congratulations to you and also to everyone who was a finalist.

“I know there are exceptional things being performed by inspirational and aspiring people here in Wales. As I travel across the country, I get to see first-hand the efforts that people make, day in day out to make our small but mighty country great.

“The St David Awards give us a chance to celebrate those people who go the extra mile often without the recognition they deserve.”

The St David Awards will be televised on ITV Wales on Tuesday, April 2.
