PLANS to merge the two schools in Llanfyllin to create an all-through school have taken a step forward with publication of a statutory notice.

Earlier this month Powys County Council’s cabinet approved plans to merge the town’s primary and secondary schools to create the county’s second all-through school.

The current proposal is that the new school opens in September 2020.

The decision follows a request from the governing bodies of Llanfyllin CP School and Llanfyllin High School for the council to take forward plans to open an ‘all-through’ school in Llanfyllin.

The bilingual school would cater for pupils from the ages of four to 18 on the existing sites.

Currently the primary school has 147 pupils and there are 707 pupils in the high school.
