A BIKER has died and another was injured in two separate crashes today (Sunday).

A police spokesperson has said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision which occurred just before 11am this morning (March 24) on the A4067 Brecon Road, between Pen y Cae and the Cray Reservoir in Powys.

"Sadly the man rider of a motorcycle, the only vehicle involved, died at the scene. His next of kin have been advised."

"The road is currently closed with diversions in place.

"If anyone has any information on this incident please contact Powys Roads Policing Unit on 101.”

Another person was injured at a second accident just 11 miles away on the A470 between Libanus and Nant-ddu.

The second accident happened at about 4pm near the Storey Arms outdoor centre, involved a car and two motorbikes.

Both roads (the A4067 and the A470) are now reported to be open.

Sadly it was the same day Dyfed-Powys Police had launched Operation Darwen to reduce motorcyclist deaths.

Their annual campaign to reduce the number of motorcyclists seriously hurt in the area has long been popular with riders.

Last year, 67 motorcyclists were either killed or seriously injured on roads in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys.

The force's "champion" Sgt Owen Dillon, of Brecon Road Policing Unit, said he had to leave the campaign launch to attend the separate accidents.
