A DOUBLE bill of contrasting one-act plays under the umbrella title of ‘Light and Shade’ are being staged by Guilsfield Amateur Dramatic Society at Guilsfield Community Centre at 7.30pm on Friday, March 29; and on Saturday, March 30.

The light is provided by the comedy ‘Two Handed Murder’, by Brian J. Barton, with two jaded and cynical actors trying to work out how to put on a murder mystery with only two actors, with hilarious consequences. It features Paula Ballard as ‘She’ and Dave Osbourne as ‘He’, and is directed by Sue Jones and Sarah Saunders.

The contrasting ‘shade’ is provided by ‘A Different Way To Die’ by Lynn Brittney, featuring Vicki Bartley as Magda, Tonia Davies as Anna, Gareth Davies as Dr Feldman and Paul Preece as Joseph.

Directed by Malcolm Graham, the play is set in Israel shortly after the Second World War with people displaced, traumatised and trying to rebuild their lives across swathes of the globe. The year 1948 brings the end of the British Mandate in Palestine and finally the embryonic Israeli state can defend itself and welcome fellow Jews.

Although a long time after the war, this powerful play intimately explores the trauma and chaos of individual lives coming together in this time of upheaval and distress.

Both plays will also be entered into the Montgomeryshire Community Drama Association Festival of One-Act Plays to be held in Berriew from April 25 to 27.

Tickets available on the door, online or from Welshpool Jewellers.
