CAERHOWEL Flood Rescue – Knight in Shining Armour:

"On Thursday evening, March 14, I was stranded in rising flood water on the unclassified road between Forden and Caerhowel (before the police alert went out).

"With water entering my car I managed to call my breakdown service before forcing the door open and wading to drier ground.

"A knight in shining armour, and riding a grey Range Rover, came along and managed to drive through the flood without his engine cutting out and stopped to offer his assistance.

"By then another car had become stranded and Mr ‘Shining Knight’ was able to tow him out of the water but mine was too deep in the flood. He let me sit in his warm car (even though I soaked all his seats) while waiting for the recovery services to arrive and low and behold another car came along which didn’t make it successfully through the flood.

"This very kind gentleman then took the other three people home and the lady from one of the stranded cars allowed me to sit in her car while I continued to wait for the RAC.

"I can’t tell you what a reassurance it was just having someone there to offer help and company in that horrible, and possibly dangerous, situation – cold, wet, dark and on my own (my husband could not be contacted as he was away at a meeting).

"Thank you so very much. I’m sorry I didn’t get your name but both my husband and I are extremely grateful. Thank you also to the lady for letting me sit in her car while she was taken home – sorry for the wet seat.

"The RAC man was not able to recover my car that night but he took me home and my husband and I went back the next morning.

"The water had subsided enough for my husband to get the car started and, with hazard lights flashing and still lots of brown water sloshing around in the car, we made our way slowly, the long way round, back to Abermule.

"Needless to say the car is taking quite a time to dry out after being thoroughly washed inside with disinfectant but at least I still have the use of my car.

"You may be interested to know that my husband recovered your car number plate that morning from the muddy waters and we have it here.

"Thank you again – you were the answer to the prayer I said in my car that evening."
