WITH the opening of the Newtown Bypass, speed limits on other roads around the town need to change.

Modifications are needed to the speed limits on Pool Road, Kerry Road, Dolfor Road and Llanidloes Road.

The roads have become the responsibility of Powys County Council (PCC) upon the opening of the Newtown Bypass.

Existing Traffic Regulation Orders will be replaced by new ones.

Highways portfolio holder, Cllr Phyl Davies (Conservative – Blaen Hafren), is making the decision using delegated powers.

Cllr Davies said: “As a consequence of the construction of the Newtown bypass, the bypassed sections of the A483 and A489 trunk roads through Newtown, have been detrunked, reclassified and renumbered as class one and two county highways becoming our responsibility.

“Part of the class one A489 Kerry Road between Pool Road and the bypass has also been reclassified as a class two county highways.

Cllr Davies added that the Welsh Government had given PCC extra money to carry out the necessary changes.
