A Llanidloes photographer won a prestigious international award for a striking action picture taken during the 2018 Wales Rally GB.

Roger Jepson took the image of Craig Breen and co-driver Scott Martin in their Citroen C3 WRC at the water splash during the Sweet Lamb stages.

The image won the Guild of Photographers’ Image of the Month competition and the image was accredited with a Gold Award.

But that was not the end of Roger’s success as the picture was announced as the Events, Sports and Action Image of the Year 2018.

It also received a huge accolade as the runner up for the Judge’s Choice of overall Image of the Year 2018 with competition from around 13,000 entries. Roger received his awards and a framed copy of his prize-winning photograph at the glittering Guild’s Awards night held at the Crewe Hall, Cheshire in February.

Steve Thirsk, Director of the Guild, said that he is “both proud and delighted” that Roger has achieved this recognition with his striking image.

He added: “The Guild has very demanding standards when judging photographic competitions. The judging is undertaken by a panel of internationally recognised experts from a variety of photographic backgrounds, so Roger quite rightly should be delighted with his extraordinary achievement.”

The Guild of Photographers is the highly-regarded national photographic body whose members are dedicated to enhancing heir skills in the art, craft and profession of photography.
