VIEWS are being sought from residents and people who use and enjoy the lake area in Llandrindod Wells as part of a project which will see a number of environmental improvements take shape over the next few months.

Powys County Council has received a £50,000 grant from the Welsh Government’s Landfill Disposal Tax Community Scheme, administered by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action, to improve facilities in the lake area of Llandrindod Wells. As part of the project it is keen to capture views via a ‘before’ and ‘after’ survey to help measure the benefits that the works will bring to the community and others who enjoy the space.

Proposed works will include replacing fishing platforms, installing a boardwalk and a new bird hide around the lake. The materials used for the platforms and the boardwalk will be produced from recycled plastic materials.

Interpretation boards will also be installed as part of this scheme.

Councillor Martin Weale, Portfolio Holder for Economy and Planning said: “I’m pleased that we have received this grant to add to the improvements that we made last year. I’d invite anyone who uses the lake and park area to complete our short survey by March 31.”

Cllr Rachel Powell, Portfolio Holder for Young People and Culture said: “The lake in Llandrindod is a much loved feature of the town. It provides a lovely space for people to enjoy some time out in nature. Whether that time is spent fishing, walking, running or cycling the lake and surrounding area plays an important part in enhancing the well-being of our residents.

“The work will add another aspect to what the lake offers currently and I’m sure a bird hide will attract a lot of interest from local schools and those interested in nature and wildlife.”

This survey is seeking views from interested groups, visitors and other users of the lake on the current facilities.

The council survey closes on Sunday, March 31, and is available online at www.powys.gov.uk/haveyoursay
