Pupils and staff at a village primary school have celebrated the opening of their new £1.5 million building.
Ysgol Carno moved into their brand new 21st Century school building on Tuesday, March 5, after six months of construction work.
The building's transformation means that the school's 43 pupils will now be taught with dedicated early years' provision adjacent to the community hall.
As a result of £1.5 million construction work by Oswestry-based Paveaways, pupils and staff no longer rely on mobile classrooms which have stood at the site for almost 25 years.
Funding for the project is a 50/50 split between Powys County Council and the Welsh Government's 21st Century Schools programme, with a £500,000 contribution from Carno Recreation Association, donated by the Tirgwynt Wind Farm Trust.
A formal opening ceremony will take place later in the year.
Cllr Myfanwy Alexander, Cabinet Member for Education, said: "This is a great day for the school community of Carno, part of a highly successful federation. The project, like the organisation of the school, is the result of creative partnership working and shows how working together can bring great dividends for our village schools."
Assistant headteacher Bethan Williams said: "Today has been amazing for the children. It's been super exciting for them watching the build during the last six months.
"Their faces lit up when they first walked into the new rooms. To be honest they were all quite quiet; I think they were overwhelmed by it all! The new building has so much space which will help with the new curriculum."
Mrs Williams added: "We would like to thank the community. They’ve been incredibly active and without them we wouldn’t be here today. They were the ones who have fought to keep this school open."
The school is part of a federation of three Welsh-medium primary schools, made up of Carno, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair. The school federation has been operating since 2014 with a single governing body, a single leadership team and a new headteacher and accommodates 157 pupils across three sites.
The federation was recently judged by Estyn to be excellent for leadership with Ysgol Carno receiving excellent judgements for standards, teaching and learning experiences, and leadership and management.
