A community centre, secondary school and the air ambulance service have received a special cash boost from the Yorkshire Building Society in Llanidloes.

Llanidloes Community Centre will use the £2,000 from the building society’s Charitable Foundation towards improving the stage lighting as part of their plans to give the entertainment venue a new lease of life.

The Llanidloes branch has also donated £1,000 towards Llanidloes High School’s new IT Suite.

Headteacher Daniel Owen says the charitable gift will help pupils become Wales’ future leaders in digital skills.

“We are immensely grateful to Yorkshire Building Society for their generous donation that helped us create a brand new IT suite at Llanidloes High School. This new facility will help us successfully meet the demands of the Digital Competency Framework.”

He added: “We have a great vision to become an increasingly agile-digital school, known for producing talented technology innovators, leading software engineers, successful entrepreneurs and contributing to the success of a thriving digital industry in Wales. With the support of Yorkshire Building Society we are helping to make that vision a reality.”

The Wales Air Ambulance Charity which gives free, life-saving medical service for the critically ill and injured across the UK and Wales will use their £2,000 donation towards buying a new helmet for their pilots.

Wales Air Ambulance Mid-Wales fundraising manager, Andrew Hall, said: “We would like to thank all the staff at the Llanidloes branch of the Yorkshire Building Society for their extremely generous donation. The money they have raised will help us to purchase a helmet for one of our Welshpool-based crew.

“2018 was our busiest year to date with 2,828 calls. Just over 10 per cent of those missions were in the Powys area. This goes to show how important the service is to the people of Wales. It’s only through the kindness of people such as the staff at Yorkshire Building Society that we are able to continue our lifesaving work across the country. I would also like to extend my gratitude to our community coordinator Diana Rowlands, who helped organise this fundraising initiative.”

Adrian Foulkes, branch co-ordinator, added: “We are very proud to have made gifts to local charities from Yorkshire Building Society’s very successful Charitable Foundation scheme. It has meant that financial support for equipment and projects has been obtained.”
