Brecon and Radnorshire’s first parkrun is only days away.

A trial run took place around the Builth Wells course on Saturday, February 23, with 28 club and leisure runners from the town, Rhayader, Presteigne, and Llandrindod Wells, supported by 14 volunteer marshals, participated.

Now the countdown is on to the launch of the first official parkrun at The Groe, on Saturday, March 2, at 9am.

Runners, joggers, walkers and volunteers can still register for the Groe event on the parkrun website.

The 5km route is a circuit around The Groe, starting from the car park, before moving down the footpath alongside the river, then around near Builth Wells Bowling Club before coming back down North Road towards The Groe and the car park.

The free event has gained support from Builth & Llanwrtyd Medical Practice which said on social media that it is “a great way to improve your health and well-being”.

Lee Jarvis, event director, said there is a “possibility in the future” to arrange a junior parkrun which is a series of 2k events for children aged between four and 14.
