MONTGOMERYSHIRE MP Glyn Davies has welcomed today’s (Thursday, February 21) Care Quality Commission (CQC) report on the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Hospital (RJAH) at Gobowen.

Following the last report three years ago which deemed improvement was needed, the trust is now judged to be ‘Good’ overall and ‘Outstanding’ for caring.

The CQC report details that inspectors saw several examples of outstanding practice at the RJAH within the areas inspected, including medical care, services for children and young people and diagnostic imaging.

Welcoming the CQC’s report, Conservative MP Glyn Davies said: “I am greatly pleased to learn that the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt NHS Hospital, at Gobowen, which serves so many patients from across Montgomeryshire, has today received a glowing report from the Care Quality Commission.

"In a remarkable turnaround from there years ago, the Trust has been rated as ‘outstanding’ for caring, and as ‘good’ for overall performance and as being well led.

“Three years ago, the CQC had identified several areas within the Trust which were deemed to require improvement. This latest report shows that the Trust has made the huge commitment needed to turn things around. It is a great tribute to committed staff and the Trust’s leadership in their hard work to address the concerns which existed three years ago.

“The hospital is very important to Wales, with a third of its patients coming from Wales. We are so fortunate to have such a brilliant hospital on our doorstep, continuing to provide world-leading care.

"Personally I have reason to be grateful, having a broken arm fixed when I was a five-year-old, and major back surgery four years ago. I think of the ‘Orthopaedic’ as we call it as being our local hospital. Today’s CQC Report should be welcomed enthusiastically by everyone.”
