A WOMAN from Anglesey will be tackling two 10k runs to raise funds for her local hospice in memory of a dear friend.

Sharon Owen from Amlwch will be looking to complete the challenge in the space of seven days, starting with the Anglesey 10k on March 3 and then the Chester 10k on March 10.

The 47-year-old says she was inspired to take the challenge on when thinking about her friend Nia Booth from Llanrwst.

"Nia passed away the end of 2017 after battling with brain tumours for many years," said Sharon, who is a chef in her local area.

"Her last few weeks were spent in St Davids Hospice in Llandudno where her care was fantastic. I want to raise valuable funds for this amazing place to help support the valuable work and care that goes on there.

"All I’ve heard is praise from Nia’s family about the standard of care. I hope my runs raise both money and awareness for St David’s in Nia’s name.

""I’m looking forward to running, particularly on Anglesey which will be very scenic. I’ve ran a 10K before but never two on back to back weekends!"

St David's Hospice provides end of life care to adults and support for families in Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey. They rely largely on donations and fundraising.

They are currently fundraising to convert a ward into a new four-bed satellite inpatient unit at Penrhos Stanley Community Hospital, Holyhead.

Conwy Area Fundraiser, James Wilde said: "This will be a real test but after speaking to Sharon I know she will succeed."The funds and awareness raised will be a great way to remember Nia and a fantastic support to us here at St David’s Hospice."
