MACHYNLLETH’S railway station is set for a share of £194 million earmarked for rail improvements in Wales.

New rail franchisee for Wales and Borders, Transport for Wales, says it is currently working on an audit of its stations after taking over the routes in October last year. ahead of releasing details of how much money could be allocated to each station.

“Transport for Wales is investing £5 billion in transforming public transport throughout Wales over the next 15 years,” said a statement.

“The investment at Machynlleth is part of the £194 million we are investing in station improvements throughout the Transport for Wales rail network.

“We are currently undertaking a detailed audit of all the stations we manage to establish the extent of the work that is necessary and how we can best utilise the existing facilities.

“This study will be completed by the end of March, after which we will be able to put together a full programme of station improvements across the network.”

Transport for Wales say more than 600 new jobs and 30 apprenticeships per year will be created by a £5bn investment in the Wales and Borders network.
