A NEW TV ‘comedy drama’ filmed in different parts of Anglesey has left viewers from the region feeling unimpressed.

‘Pitching In’, which debuted on BBC One Wales last week, features Gavin and Stacey stars Larry Lamb and Melanie Walters.

During the first episode of the four-part series created by Liverpool-based LA Productions, viewers were quick to point out flaws - with the lack of North Wales accents being the main talking point on social media.

One critical viewer blamed the casting of actors from South Wales for the issue.

The Twitter user wrote: “The most unforgivable thing about #PitchingIn is casting loads of South Wales actors, who all proceed to attempt North Wales accents.

“The only North Wales actress (Valmai Jones) however, seems to be butchering a South Wales accent. Lazy lazy casting. Woeful. Should be axed.”

The review was echoed by several other people who felt that it was a “missed opportunity” for local actors to showcase their talents.

One viewer joked that “Anglesey slipped it’s mooring and floated south, judging by the accents.”

Holyhead Councillor Vaughan Williams agreed that the lack of local talent on show was "disappointing".

"I welcome the fact that the programme puts Anglesey on the map, but I was disappointed by the apparent lack of local actors on it," he said.

"We have an abundance of local talent here in north Wales and it's our young actors who need an opportunity. I'm also disappointed that there was no mention of the Welsh language being used on the island either."

The ‘Pitching In’ series itself follows North Wales holiday camp owner Frank Hardcastle (Larry Lamb) who contemplates selling up, after the death of his Welsh wife.

Scenes were filmed in several locations around Anglesey, including Cemaes.
