WELSHPOOL Town Council has already made plans for the passing of the Queen, including a press statement from the mayor.

The council unanimously voted in favour of the 12-point plan at the last full council meeting, which will come into place as soon as the council has been made aware of the Queen’s passing.

The final part of the plan is for the mayor, currently Cllr Stephen Kaye, to make a statement to the press. This statement was attached to the agenda of the last full council meeting.

The statement reads: “The mayor, councillors, town clerk and staff of Welshpool Town Council are saddened by the passing of our Queen.

“She has been a wonderful monarch and will be missed around the globe as well as here in Welshpool.

“I know many in Welshpool will remember her visit to us 2010 where she met so many of the local residents.

“God bless her.”

The full plan is as follows:

The Union Jack and Welsh Flags at town hall to be at half-mast until the funeral has been held.

Flags at the Tourist Information Centre and Memorial Gardens to be at half-mast until the funeral has been held.

Barriers to be created around the town hall frontage for flowers from the public. This area to be well signed and a banner in place to be put on the wall of the town hall.

The location of the flowers is to be considered by the Events and Tourism Committee at their February 2019 meeting.

A picture of the queen to be put on the easel outside the town hall for the duration of the 12 days.

Flowers to be monitored watered as needed and dead ones removed tactfully.

Town hall to be coloured in red, white and blue for the period.

The book of remembrance to be located at the town hall with councillors and the town clerk volunteering to man the point from 9am to 5pm during the 12 day mourning period.

The Day Centre to be open on the day of the funeral for clients to be part of the proceedings. The town clerk to be present.

A beacon will be lit outside the Town Hall on the funeral day form the start of the funeral until the early evening.

The Red Bank beacon will be lit on the funeral day from the start of the funeral until the early evening.

The mayor to make a statement to the press.
