IMPOSSIBLE love and longing for lost youth are the themes of the latest Attfield Theatre Company's production.

Drama enthusiasts can make a date to catch Ladies in Lavender, which hits the stage at the Attfield Theatre at the end of the month.

The play – an adaptation of a well-known movie – tells of two ageing spinsters who find a young man washed up on the beach near their Cornish home in the 1930s.

They nurse him back to health but emotions are well and truly stirred and jealousies aroused. There are suspicions too in the community, which are stirred up by the appearance of a young foreigner in a country set on course for war.

Ladies in Lavender is adapted from a 2004 blockbuster featuring Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, which was directed by Charles Dance.

The film was based on a short story of the same name by noted novelist and playwright, William John Locke, which was published in 1916.

The Attfield’s version of the story is directed by Debbie Jones and runs from Monday,February 25 to Saturday, March 2.

Tickets for the show are priced at £8 and are available from the company’s website at https://attfieldtheatre.co.uk/ or at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/
