Talented Ysgol Calon Cymru pupils were in fine tune as they took part in this year’s Builth Wells Rotary Club Young Musician of the Year competition.

Almost 30 children from the secondary school’s Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells campuses competed in the vocal and instrumental sections for both junior and senior pupils.

Musical director of Talgarth Male Voice Choir, Paul Sweeting, was the event’s adjudicator and Rotarian Dave Ronicle was the MC.

Maisy Wilcocks took first place in the junior instrumental section, along with second place Rhodri Blakeway and third place Lexie Morgan-Rogers.

In the junior vocal section, Cari Funicane won it, followed by Maisy Wilcocks in second and Annie Cromie in third.

Annie went on to win the senior instrumental section, with Sam Davies taking second place and Bethan Jones third.

The best senior vocalist was Reuben Davies, followed by Tegwen Bruce-Deans and Mabli Jones taking third place.

Reuben Davies and Sam Davies were elected to go forward to the Rotary area finals.
