A darts competition starring some of the UK’s best players has raised thousands of pounds for a mid Powys mental health charity.

The fundraising event, held in December 2018, raised £4,539.22 for Mid Powys Mind, in memory of Tristan Claridge.

Current British Darts Organisation (BDO) World Champion Glen Durrant and Welsh number one, and current BDO world number three Jim Williams took part in the competition that was hosted by Builth Wells-based pub The Fountain Inn.

Williams was the winner of the darts competition and donated the prize money of £400 to Mid Powys Mind, with Lee Williams as runner-up.

A spokesperson for The Fountain Inn said: “We are very pleased to be handing over this amazing amount of £4,539.22 to Mid Powys Mind. This fantastic amount of money was raised by our darts competition that was held in December. Thank you to everyone that supported the event.”

Friends and family of Tristan Claridge have worked hard to raise money and promote the mental health charity’s services around Builth Wells in his memory. The money they have raised has helped towards publishing new leaflets and erecting a new sign in Builth Wells that raises awareness of the charity’s drop in services.

“Mid Powys Mind is so grateful to all those involved in raising awareness and funds in the memory of Tristan Claridge for their continued support of our organisation,” Jo Houlsby, from Mid Powys Mind, said.

“The community has worked really hard to raise Mid Powys Mind’s profile in and around Builth Wells. In total £9,642.30 has been raised in Tristan’s name for our organisation, which is absolutely staggering.

“Without such generous donations and support Mid Powys Mind would not be able to run some of the services that we currently offer.

“The money donated in memory of Tristan has been, and will continue to be, spent on our counselling service, publicity to increase public awareness of the support we offer and more work around preventing suicide, particularly in men.”
