THE countdown to Brecon and Radnorshire’s first parkrun has begun.

Organisers have confirmed that the inaugural parkrun will start on Saturday, March 2, in Builth Wells.

Groe parkrun will be one the 750 locations around the UK that will host the free 5k event on Saturday mornings in areas of open space.

During the lead up to the inaugural event, parkrun organisers will be holding a series of ‘test runs’ around the course.

The route is a circuit around The Groe starting from the car park before moving down the footpath alongside the river, then around near Builth Wells Bowling Club before coming back down North Road towards The Groe and the car park.

Runners, joggers, walkers and volunteers can register for the Groe event on the parkrun website on Friday, February 22.

After several months of planning and discussions with Run Wales, parkrun and Powys County Council, the green light for was given in late November.

Groe parkrun will be the first ever event to be held in Brecon and Radnorshire. Currently, the nearest events take place in Newtown, Hereford, Merthyr Tydfil and Aberystwyth.
