A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after shots were fired at unarmed police officers at a property near Lake Vyrnwy.

Police attended the incident at around 10.50am on Monday, January 21, to carry out a "concern for safety welfare check" on the occupant.

They say a 44-year-old man from the Kidderminster area fired at unarmed police officers when they arrived at the property.

A full firearms incident was declared with specialist armed officers attending and containing the location with road closures put in place.

Other specialist police resources were sent to manage the incident – including a National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter for support. Neighbouring police force resources were also sent to support the incident.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said the incident was brought to a "successful conclusion" with no one being hurt.

The 44-year-old man, who was the only person at the location, was arrested "swiftly and safely" on suspicion of attempted murder and firearms offences. He was taken to hospital for treatment with a police escort after a "medical episode".

Police were still in the area on Tuesday while a thorough search was being carried out as part of the investigation.
