A newlywed couple have donated almost £10,000 to charities that are close to their hearts.

Haf and Geraint Jones wanted to do something to help raise awareness of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, and the Severn Hospice.

In total, their wedding guests donated £9,568 at a charity Sunday lunch and promise auction following the wedding near Llanerfyl which was hosted by the bride’s parents and organised by the bride and groom.

“We would like to thank all individuals who donated items so generously for the promise auction and to all of those who supported the charity lunch in any way,” Haf said.

“We chose Severn Hospice as one of the charities because as a family we know many individuals who have needed their vital services, and without their services individuals wouldn’t have the care and support which they require.

“Crohn’s and Colitis UK is a charity very close to our hearts and we wanted to raise awareness of the conditions and the charity’s work.”

Elwyn Owen, chair of Severn Hospice’s Llanfair Caereinion Support Group, said: “We would like to thank Haf and Geraint Jones for the very kind and generous donation from money raised at the Sunday Lunch following their wedding.

“The Hospice covers Shropshire and Mid Wales and relies totally on donations to keep the doors open and are very grateful for all monies received. We as a group are always looking to organise various events throughout the year to raise funds and are very grateful for all the support and donations received. Thanks again to Haf and Geraint.”
