A HOUSING developer has confirmed that work will start this Spring on a controversial new build in Flintshire.

The 59 home development off Llys Gwynant in Bryn-Y-Baal was originally rejected by the local planning authority but the decision was overturned following a report by the planning inspectorate.

Bloor Homes was originally granted permission to a total of 59 houses on land at Issa Farm in Bryn y Baal following a planning appeal in June 2016.

However, the firm later pulled out of the development despite being granted a two-year extension by Flintshire Council.

The scheme has now been taken on by Denbighshire-based developers MacBryde Homes, who applied to make changes to the type of houses on the site in the autumn.

When the proposals were first put forward they were strongly opposed by residents, who were concerned about the impact the development would have on roads and schools in the area near Mold.

And despite the fact more than 200 objectors signed a petition which was lodged with Flintshire Council, the development was given the green light on appeal by Welsh Government planning inspectors, who said the area had ‘good access’ to services and subsequently by Flintshire’s planning committee.

It will be a mix of two and three bedroom townhouses and three and four bedroom detached homes.

The new development is expected to support the creation of 182 new jobs locally, as well as provide contributions towards improvements at the nearby Mynydd Isa Primary School.

Simon Finlay, Head of Development at Macbryde Homes, said: “We are delighted to have secured our first development in Flintshire for several years and this will be an important step towards Macbryde Homes’ organic growth plans of achieving sites in each of the North Wales local authority areas.

“Mold, as with much of North Wales, desperately needs more good quality homes at affordable prices and we could see the clear potential that this site offered.

“We’re confident that the mix of properties that we’ve planned will not only provide much needed homes to local people, but also complement the existing local landscape as we pride ourselves on the design and materials used across all our developments.”

Work is due to commence this Spring and sales will launch shortly afterwards.
