Police in Welshpool have made two arrests and raided two properties after a traffic stop revealed quantities of class A drugs.

Officers from Newtown's Road Policing Unit stopped a dark coloured Ford on the A483 approaching Welshpool from Pool Quay on Saturday, January 5, before police say the driver failed a drugs test at the roadside.

A quantity of Class A drugs were found in the vehicle before two arrests were made.

Searches were subsequently carried out at properties in Welshpool and Newtown.

A statement on twitter from Newtown Road Policing Unit said:

"Pre-emptive tactics used by RPU to stop a vehicle in Welshpool. Driver failed a roadside Drug Swipe so arrested, Class A substances found. 2 arrested for intent to supply."
