Police have appealed for witnesses after a late-night attack in Newtown left three people with 'substantial and multiple injuries'.

Officers from Newtown are looking for witnesses to come forward in relation to the incident, which occurred on Thursday, December 27 at around 3.30am.

Police say two males and a female, all in in their twenties, left the Steam Mill night club in Newtown, before encountering a group of males, also in their early twenties, on Broad Street.

Police say the group of males became verbally abusive towards them, before following them down behind Spar next to St Marys Close and then onto Severn Street where the two males and the female were attacked.

"After the attack the males and female have made their way to the car park below McDonalds," said a police statement.

"Once there they have been attacked again until they eventually made their way to McDonalds.

"As a result of this attack they have sustained some quite substantial and multiple injuries."
