A wooden bear that made national headlines last summer after causing a driver to crash has been rehomed.

Llanwrtyd Wells’ 10ft bear has been removed from its former home of 15 years outside the former Cambrian Woollen Mill.

After several months of lying near the A483 roadside and looking a little worse for wear as a result, the bear will be restored before going on display at the town’s playing fields.

The owner of the bear has decided to bequeath the wooden animal to the children of Llanwrtyd Wells.

Dolwen Fields, owned by Llanwrtyd Wells Town Council, is currently in the process of applying for funding to transform the recreational space to include an outdoor gym, a sensory garden and better access to the pavilion.

If planning application and funding is granted, the bear, which Llanwrtyd Wells Town Council clerk Lynn Bell said “the community has taken to their hearts”, will be rehomed in the sensory garden for everyone to enjoy.
