A BBC Radio Wales presenter famous for being the tenor on the Go Compare advert is being pushed out of his comfort zone by shearing on one of the world's biggest shearing stages in Llanelwedd for a brand-new TV series.

Wynne Evans – who’s from a farming family – attempts to reconnect with his rural roots and master sheep shearing. After watching some speedy professionals at work, Wynne feels ready. But the back-breaking reality of this extremely physical skill soon becomes clear.

Wynne’s goal is to shear on one of the world’s biggest shearing stages – the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show in Llanelwedd. But before he’s allowed, he must earn his ‘blue seal’ - a prestigious award given to shearers who can shear two sheep in under five minutes.

His only hope is mentor and former champion shearer Arwyn Jones, from Ruthin. After much wool, sweat and tears, will it end in shearing glory?

In this series, Wynne at the Deep End braves a demanding challenge each week. He’s learning new skills, meeting incredible people and realising life-long ambitions, and getting the chance to put his experiences to the ultimate test, in front of top experts.

The first episode of 'Wynne at the Deep End' is on Friday, January 4 at 7.30pm on BBC One Wales.
