A Christmas display in Llandrindod Wells has been "ripped down", "cut" and "crushed".

The criminal damage to the Christmas lights and memorial tree in the Memorial Garden occurred sometime between Wednesday, December 26 and Friday, December 28.

Damage was caused to Christmas lights and tags were ripped off the memorial tree. The area has now been closed to the public for health and safety reasons.

The mayor of Llandrindod Wells, Councillor Jonathan Williams, as well as the police, are encouraging people to come forward with information.

Posting on Facebook, Cllr Williams offered a £100 reward for "information leading to the prosecution of those responsible for the damage caused to the memorial gardens Christmas display".

He said: "The damage was caused sometime between boxing day and this morning (Friday, December 29).

"The wiring loom in the large tree has been ripped down and cut, bulbs and holders crushed.

"The fairybell tree has had wiring cut and ripped out.

"The grotto lights and very sadly the memorial tree has had the lights ripped out and cut and the memorial tags ripped off.

"As you can understand, due to health and safety reasons I have had to lock the grotto and disconnect the electrical supply to the displays as the wires have been left in an unsafe and life threatening state.

"If you have any information please contact the police on 101 or you can private message me. All information will be treated confidentially."

Cllr Williams later said: "It looks like the big tree damage was an accident but not reported and left live wires hanging, the rest was vandalism."

If you have any information ring 101.
