“ANOTHER year has almost passed and a time of reflection begins!
“Our wonderful community of Presteigne and Norton has experienced highs and lows in 2018,” writes county councillor Beverley Baynham in a new year message to constituents.
“Sadly the Radnorshire Arms closed which has been devastating, and, rather alarmingly, the cash machine got blown up more recently causing a big commotion in our rural town.
“But, the highs hopefully have outshone the lows. We’ve had some wonderful community events including Presteigne Carnival, Norton Show, Presteigne Panto, Presteigne Food Festival, and the wheelbarrow race was resurrected after many years; which proved a massive success.
“We welcomed the Vintage Car Club in the autumn, now without a venue for their annual dinner as it is normally held at the Radnorshire Arms, but a small group of people managed to put on an evening event at the Memorial Hall. Presteigne community spirit at its best.
“2019 may prove more challenging.
“Powys County Council is facing massive financial pressures which will undoubtedly affect us all.
“But as a community we can look forward to phase two of the safe route to school being completed, hopefully the Radnorshire Arms will be sold and re-opened and I’m sure we will have another year of fantastic events.
“If anyone would like to contact me you are very welcome to email me at: cllr.beverley.baynham@powys.gov.uk
I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” added Cllr Baynham.
