The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) has donated £500 towards Builth Wells’ festive displays.

The society said it has made the gesture to continue its close relationship with the town and surrounding areas.

A spokesperson for the society said: “Ongoing close relations between Builth Wells Town Council, the local community and the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society continue throughout the year, but especially at Christmas.

“Each year, Builth Wells Town Council light up the streets with a wonderful display of Christmas lights in preparation for a busy week welcoming crowds from the highly anticipated Royal Welsh Winter Fair. The festive event is held every year at the end of November / start of December where crowds gather for one of the most prestigious primestock and traders events in the agricultural calendar.

“The town delivers a merry welcome, with quaint shops and cafes offering the best of Welsh produce, along with lights and a special festive feel.”

RWAS chief executive, Steve Hughson, handed over the money to Builth Wells Town Council, represented by the Deputy Mayor, and said: “The Royal Welsh is a vibrant part of the Mid Wales community and we are committed to supporting our local communities. Builth Wells makes a real effort to deliver that Christmas feel with fantastic town centre lights, which adds to our Winter Fair Christmas atmosphere.

“We are very happy to support the town with a donation towards the cost and look forward to working together for the benefit of the area next year.”

Builth Wells Deputy Mayor, Cllr Gwyn Davies said it was a “pleasure” to receive the cheque and added: “It is essential that Builth and the RWAS continue to support each other to guarantee the future success of both parties.”
