Santa was caught up in Welshpool's floods en route to Churchstoke Shopping Centre this morning.

He was trying to drive past Welshpool Airport on the A490 when he encountered the flood.

It was the same location where a broken down car was stuck and had to be rescued by emergency services.

Santa considered crossing the water then thought better of it.

County Times photographer Phil Blagg gave Santa alternative directions to get to the shopping centre in Churchstoke, avoiding the floods.

However, Mr Blagg then told Santa to follow his car to Churchstoke as he was travelling in the same direction.

Thanks to Mr Blagg, Santa made it Churchstoke Shopping Centre, formerly known as Harry Tuffins, in time to meet the children.

Santa said: "I did indeed get there, thanks to your kind help. Merry Christmas! Ho ho ho!"

Mr Blagg said: "I couldn't bare to think of the children not seeing Santa so close to Christmas."
