Hay Road by Chapel House - also known as the Abernant Bends - was closed for four hours following the collision of a Scania bus and a Suzuki motorcycle on Wednesday afternoon.
The biker was treated at the scene by Welshpool-based Welsh Flying Medics and was then flown to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Emergency services - which included two ambulances, two fire and rescue crews and police - were sent to the scene at around 2.30pm and the road was closed until around 6.30pm.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called yesterday (December 12, 2018) at approximately 2.40pm to reports of a road traffic collision on the A470 between Builth Wells and Erwood.
"We responded with two emergency ambulances and an air ambulance, where one person was taken by air ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.”
