Glyn Davies, the Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, has continued to back Theresa May as Prime Minister, and has called the vote of no confidence against her "divisive nonsense".

Writing on Facebook, Glyn Davies MP said: "I’m just repeating what I’ve been saying ad nauseam for weeks. I reckon Theresa May is the best person to be our Prime Minister.

"And I support the Withdrawal Agreement she continues to negotiate with EU Leaders as the best deal on the table (only deal on the table).

"While on one hand I think the 48 writers of letters are unwise, it’s probably good that we sort this out today. Throughout history, political parties do sometimes seem to have a death wish and are drawn to the self destruct button. I expect us to step back from the brink.

"I really do hope we back Theresa May tonight, and put this divisive nonsense behind us."

Theresa May will face a vote of confidence in her leadership later on today (Wednesday, December 12).

Conservative MPs will vote between 6pm and 8pm this evening.

In a statement in Downing Street, Mrs May said: "I will contest that vote with everything I have got".

She also said that changing Conservative leader would "put our country's future at risk and create uncertainty when we can least afford it".
