Tributes have been paid by Powys County Council to a 'highly respected' member of staff who tragically died in a road crash on his way to work.

James Rogers, from Llandrindod Wells, was travelling to his shift at Brecon Household Waste Recycling Centre when his blue Ford Focus collided with a white Man lorry on the A470, near Llyswen, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

His colleagues at the council's waste and recycling team are said to be 'shocked' by the popular 30-year-old's death and that he will be 'sorely missed'.

Adrian Jervis, Acting Head of Highways, Transport and Recycling, said: “James was a highly respected and popular member of staff who will be sorely missed. He was a key member of our waste and recycling team and colleagues are shocked at his untimely death.

“Our thoughts are with James’ family and friends during this difficult time.”

Director of Environment at Powys County Council Nigel Brinn took to Twitter to share his tribute to Mr Rogers.

He said: "I very much regret to advise that the driver who unfortunately lost his life in this crash was one of the @PowysCC team on his way to start a Saturday shift for @PowysRecycles all our thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues at this truly awful time. May he RIP."
