THE ATTFIELD Theatre is looking to cast actors its next production – Ladies in Lavender

Director Debbie Jones is hosting an open audition at the Theatre on Tuesday, December 18 at 7.30 pm.

Based on the hit film screenplay by Charles Dance starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, it tells the tale of two sisters who live in a close-knit fishing village in Cornwall in 1936.

The Waddington sisters, Janet and Ursula, have lived in their seaside cottage all their lives, their existence is almost idyllic. The spinsters enjoy music, listening to the radio, gentle gardening and knitting.

And then, into their serene and undemanding lives comes a stranger in the form of an unknown young man washed ashore from a shipwreck. In time, they discover the young man is Polish and is a virtuoso violinist. However, the presence of the mysterious young man reawakens long-dormant yearnings and memories, disrupting their peaceful lives and the community in which they live

This unpredictable story of surprising emotional power also benefits from a plot twist or two to keep the audience enthralled. The play gives each actor, no matter how small the role, time to bring their character to life. This is a lively tale brimming with modern insight, celebrating the fact that the thrill of love can be ageless.

The characters are the two spinster sisters Janet and Ursula Waddington (both over 50) Dr Mead (over 50) and Olga Danilova (a young Bohemian woman).

But don’t be put off if you don’t match exactly the age range as the Attfield can age you up or down through the wonders of make-up.

Debbie says she is “very excited about this play” which is being staged from February 25 to March 2.

If you would like to come along to read for a part or get involved back stage come along and join the team.”
