A BUSY festive weekend at Newtown’s Hafren theatre continues this Sunday afternoon, December 9, with Ballet Cymru performing a sparkling and refreshing ballet based on the eternal fairytale ‘Cinderella’.

Starting at 3pm, it features specially commissioned music and creative circus elements combined with finest classical dance, and choreography by Creative Wales Award winner Darius Jones.

Ballet Cymru prides itself on being different and ‘Cinderella’ is no exception, working with award winning composer Jack White and Circus Company Citrus Arts to conjure a surprising world of wonder and magic.

Cinderella is a co-production between Ballet Cymru and The Riverfront Theatre and in association with Citrus Arts.

Ballet Cymru’s other touring show is a celebration of the work of Dylan Thomas and his most famous seasonal creation in ‘A Child’s Christmas, Poems and Tiger Eggs’, which can be seen at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Tuesday, December 11.

This timeless interpretation has narration by Cerys Matthews who has also co-written the music with Mason Neely.

Meanwhile back at The Hafren this Saturday night, December 8, one of the area’s most popular local singers, Dai Robs hosts another of his popular Christmas live shows.

He will be appearing with a specially assembled 10-piece band with a mix of Christmas songs, pop hits and originals from his latest album.

Colour Sunday will be joining Dai as support band and tickets cost £9 from the box office on 01686 614555.

The dynamic male vocal ensemble, Only Men Aloud will also be coming to Newtown as part of their Decade Tour celebrating 10 years since winning the BBC Last Choir Standing competition, with support from Britain’s Got Talent winner Gruffydd Wyn, on Saturday, December 11.
