What’s Behind the Door?

MORE than 100 people gathered in Broad Street, Montgomery, eagerly awaiting the opening of the first door of the town’s Live Advent Calendar.

They found a door adorned with a cheerful red-nosed reindeer, and a window beautifully dressed with teddy Santa and his sleigh.

Mayor Lionel Weaver, the Rev Mary Turnock, and six-year-old Poppy and Daisy Varty, dressed as angels, rang a hand-bell and knocked on the door with a crook.

Mike and Lesley Mills welcomed everyone inside no. 7 Broad Street to discover memories of a 60s and 70s childhood Christmas, including retro games, Morecambe and Wise, balloon reindeer, music, mulled wine and mince pies.

Each evening up until Christmas Eve, a door will open at a different place in Montgomery and those gathered outside will experience a creative Christmas themed event for a few minutes at that doorway. Photos and details of all Advent Calendar doors are displayed in the window at Montgomery Library and you can follow the story on Facebook each day.
