WELSH rugby legend Shane Williams will be a star attraction on the opening day of this year’s Royal Welsh Winter Fair at Builth Wells on 26 November.

The all-time record try-scorer will be a special guest on the stand of Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) on Monday afternoon, as he helps the red meat body to reinforce the message that lamb can be an ideal part of a healthy balanced diet for active lifestyles.

At 1pm at its stand in the South Glamorgan Hall, HCC will give fair-goers a sneak preview of a video shot as part of the forthcoming ‘Discover your weekday prime’ campaign, which features Shane Williams rustling up a healthy and convenient lamb dish.

Shane will then cook live in HCC’s demonstration kitchen, where he will join Elwen Roberts to cook some PGI Welsh Lamb and share the secrets of his healthy eating and exercise regime. Once the final whistle sounds, he will be joined in the HCC kitchen by Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Planning and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths AM who will cook her favourite Welsh Lamb dish.

HCC will be joined by another rugby star to promote the latest promotional campaign for PGI Welsh Beef. Wales women’s fly-half Elinor Snowsill will share some of her very own Welsh Beef recipes with the audience and discuss the new Trick Shot competition in which women’s teams can win £1,000 towards new rugby equipment, a kicking masterclass with Elinor and Welsh Beef for the squad.

Fair-goers will be able to sample the finished meals and meet their rugby heroes, as well as being able to enter a competition on the HCC stand to win rugby and red meat merchandise.

“We’re delighted that Shane and Elinor will be the stars of our show at the Winter Fair on Monday afternoon,” said HCC Market Development Manager Rhys Llywelyn, who is hosting the event.

“Our winter campaigns for both lamb and beef are based around the central message that red meat is a convenient and nutritious choice as part of a healthy balanced diet,” added Rhys. “Working with rugby stars is a great way to show that beef and lamb are full of protein and nutrients, and a great choice for active lifestyles.”
