LLANFAIR United tasted defeat for the first time this season as Caernarfon Town battled to Welsh Cup victory at Mount Field.
The North Wales side arrived following a troubled week which saw them withdraw from the Orchard Welsh Women’s Premier due to travel demands.
However the Canaries still began as favourites and were keen to underline their credentials against a United side leading the way with an unbeaten record in the North Wales League.
The tie remained deadlocked until a late flurry of action at the end of the first-half saw Catrin Thomas fire the Canaries ahead.
United responded immediately with the inform Mary Griffiths restoring parity.
Caernarfon regained their lead early in the second-half with home goalkeeper Tracey Godsell spilling a free-kick for Jade Cooke to pounce.
United dominated the remainder of the tie with Sarah Ellis twice going close while Gemma Jones also fired wide from distance.
United continued to press for an equaliser with Sophie Cook’s powerful effort forcing goalkeeper Sara Williams into action but Caernarfon held out to claim progress.
