Oswestry Boys and Girls Football Club say they have welcomed new players following their plea for new blood in The Tizer for their girls team.

Dean Aldwinckle, from the club, was delighted with the response but is hoping for more to come forward.

He said: "We can fill some of the slots, but we've had a few enquiries. I think people seeing the story in print and then online helped as we've had a girl from Newtown get in touch.

"We have a few slots available but we're looking for two or three more girls. But we don't want people to feel they have to come and stay; they can see what we have to offer them.

"If people want to come and see then that's great too. We offer 11-a-side on a Saturday and we have about 12/13 players so far. We can also arrange transport for them too."

Meanwhile, the club has received support from Woodheads Sales and Lettings in Oswestry who are sponsoring their under-8 'Blue Devil’s' boys football tops.

Dean Pritchard, from the club, said: “We are so grateful for the generosity shown by Kate Howell from Woodheads. It's great that a company like Woodheads are willing to support local clubs like ours. With their support, our boys are able to turn up to matches and training looking smart and professional, which can sometimes give us an edge before a ball is even kicked. From everyone associated with the under-8 Blue Devils, we'd like to thank Kate and the team for their support and generosity”.

Kate, from Woodheads, added: “It’s great to see pictures of the team in their new tops, they look great! Good luck for the season from all at Woodheads!”
