A MUCH-loved Wrexham woman has died following a fire at her home in Plas Madoc.

Alison ‘Ali’ Edwards, 41, who lived in the house in Gwynant with Mark Hammond, her partner of 14 years, was found by him in the living room, where it is believed the fire started, shortly before 1am on Sunday.

Speaking to the Leader on behalf of Ms Edwards’ sister and his wife Suzanne, Brian Lewis said the whole family was in state of shock at the death of the person described as being a devoted partner, sister, daughter and auntie to those who knew her.

He said: “Ali was just such a lovely person who was loved by us all.

“It’s just such a shock, to die at such a young age.

The Leader:

“She had so much to live for and we’d all been making plans for Christmas.

“She didn’t have any children herself, but the way she would spoil and treat our four was just something else.

“She was always buying them presents and they absolutely adored her as much as she adored them.”

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service firefighters were called to the property at 12.52am to deal with the blaze and Ms Edwards was rushed to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital suffering from severe smoke inhalation.

At around 7.30pm on Sunday she died as a result of her injuries, with her family at her bedside.

Mr Lewis added: “When they told us there was nothing else they could do for her.

“The only comfort was at least we were all there by her side to say our final goodbyes.

“I must say a special thank you to all the emergency services who all did an outstanding job trying to save Ali’s life and we are all very grateful for their efforts.”

Mr Hammond was upstairs when the fire started and despite suffering from smoke inhalation himself, he has now been released from hospital and is thought to be staying with relatives as the home is so badly damaged by smoke.
