A FLINTSHIRE woman has generously donated toys for the Leader toy appeal.

Nerys Jones, 62, of Mynydd Isa, said she wanted to get involved to help the families that are struggling and dropped off the items to the Mold office on Thursday, November 15.

She added: "Im recently retired and so I thought what could I do to help and I decided to get involved.

"There are so many families out there who are struggling, emotionally, physically and socially, so a little bit of help would go a long way for those kiddies.

"Please, if you can help, then please do. Even if you just get a jigsaw, it's a few pounds out of your weekly shopping bill.

"You don't have to spend a fortune, every little helps."

The Leader has joined forces with the charity North Wales Superkids to gather gifts for children who may not receive any this Christmas.

The charity was founded by Margaret Williams MBE from Flint and more information can be found online at visit www.northwalessuperkids.co.uk

North Wales Superkids was awarded an MBE in its own right as a group under the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2003.

Nerys, who worked at the Alun School in Mold teaching Health and Social Care, said she has known Margaret for a long time and often helps her with charity work.

She said: "I was her daughters form tutor and over the years we kept in touch. I knew she was involved with a charity and I wanted to support her. During her Easter Appeal I knitted some ducks and stuffed them with chocolate.

"When I first moved to Mold it was very poor because of job losses and things like that and I remember being horrified at children coming into school with holes in their shoes.

"Things have improved but there are still families that are struggling.

"Hopefully these children will feel very happy and grateful. Some kids don't know the meaning of the word thank you, but I'm sure they will feel like someone is thinking of them.

"I wish Margaret and her family a very happy Christmas and thank her for all her hard work."

Donations can be dropped off at the Leader offices on High Street, Wrexham and Wrexham Road, Mold until 4.30pm on Friday, December 14.
