Singing sensations the Fire Tones have received a boost in their bid to get their charity single to number one this Christmas, after Aled Jones MBE sent over a message of support.

The single, a cover version of 'Do they know it's Christmas?' which was the brainchild of Welshpool firefighter Chris Birdsell-Jones and involved 40 fire service personnel from across the country, is set to raise money for the Firefighters Charity and the Band Aid Charity Trust.

Jones, the former chorister from Bangor who is no stranger to a Christmas hit single himself having reached number five in the 1985 charts with 'Walking in the Air', checked in with a short video to wish the firefighters 'Pob lwc' ahead of the launch of the single on November 30.

"Hi, this is Aled Jones - I'd just like to wish the Fire Tones all the best for their Christmas number one," he said.

"Go on, you can do it!"

Meanwhile, CD copies of the single have now been made available for pre-order via the online merchant Amazon.

Costing £3.99 and despite not being released yet, the single was closing in on the top 100 in Amazon's charts this afternoon.

The group are among the bookies favourites to hit the number one spot in the early betting, and they will be hoping to emulate the success of The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir, who scored a 2015 Christmas number one with their hit single; ‘A Bridge Over You’.

"Exciting news from 'The Fire Tones'. Our CD is now available to pre-order on Amazon. It will be officially released on Friday 30th November," said a statement on the group's Facebook page.

"We are raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity and the Band Aid Charity Trust so please invite all of your friends to follow our Facebook page, let's do something great this Christmas."

The Fire Tones have also launched a range of online merchandise to help swell the charity coffers.
