A GWYNEDD family told to pull their Christmas light display down will now be able to turn them back on again after their landlord made a u-turn on the decision.

Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG) had ordered Debbie Williams and her son Callum to take the 200 lights, aimed at raising money for charity, down from their house on Cefn Hendre, Caernarfon.

On Tuesday, CCG officials warned that the lights could be "damaging the house's external insulation" and that the "wrong nails were being used" to hold the lights in place.

However, as the incident garnered attention online and with friends and family on the estate, CCG decided to have a change of heart.

22-year-old Callum said: "We have been running the lights display for the past four years and we have never had problems with it before.

"I'm expecting a call today (Thursday, November 15) from CCG to let me know which type of nails I'm supposed to be using to hold the lights up.

"I'm just so glad that they have seen sense and are letting us get on with it. I'm half way through putting the lights up already, so I'll be putting the rest up in the coming days."

In the last two years alone, the Williams' light display has raised £1,400 for various charities and has featured on S4C.

This time around the lights will be switched on at 5.30pm on Saturday, November 24.

Tickets will cost £2 for adults and £3 for children and proceeds will be split between the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity (SANDS) and the family of Llinos Bevan Back, who died aged 40 following a battle with cancer and left behind son Oliver, 9.

Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd say they are working with Mr Williams in an attempt to find a solution to the damage which already exists in the external wall installation.

"We are in discussion with the render manufacturer regarding their approved method of fixing which Mr Williams will be expected to follow," A spokesperson said.

"We will also inspect the connections of the lights for electrical safety. Once we are satisfied that both of these requirements are met we will not object to the display.

"We would like to remind all our tenants who have had new external wall installation on their properties in the last five years to contact us to seek advice and permission before any fixings are made."
