AN OSWESTRY based organisation is set to introduce an accredited falls prevention service throughout the region.

The New Saints FC Foundation is partnering with Energize County Sports Partnership and Shropshire Council Public Health to deliver the service for people in town and its surrounding areas.

This partnership fills a gap in local provision for individuals at risk of falls and is part of the Oswestry Social Prescribing Pilot.

The Foundation is working closely with GPs and physiotherapists to deliver the programme, which is designed to help people aged 65 and above who may be at risk of falls.

They will offer sessions focus on increasing core strength which helps to maintain posture and balance, as well as teaching people how to safely get up from the floor in the event of a fall.

They also provide strategies for coping if people are unable to lift themselves back upright.

The New Saints FC Foundation’s Health Living Co-ordinator Shelly McGlinchey, said: “We are pleased to be working with both Energize County Sports Partnership and Shropshire Council Public Health to deliver this evidence-based programme which aims to keep people independent for as long as possible.

“The Elevate Falls Prevention programme further extends the comprehensive range of high-quality coaching sessions and services provided by The New Saints FC Foundation.

“We hope it helps to improve health and well-being in the local community, as well as helping to reduce the impact of unexpected falls.

“Taking part in these classes has been shown to boost confidence and independence – both inside and outside the home.”
