A PROLIFIC thief from Wrexham has admitted stealing a fish lamp because he was drunk and liked the bubbles it emitted.
Kieron Christopher Smith, 25, pleaded guilty at North East Wales Magistrates Court to one count of theft from a shop after he was caught taking the lamp and three cans of deodorant from QD Stores on Hope Street, Wrexham, on October 30.
Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, said Smith, of Pen Y Llyn, Gwersyllt, was spotted by security removing tags from the water bubble light and putting the deodorant underneath a pushchair that was being pushed by a friend.
He later told officers that he had "taken a liking" to the lamp because he had been drinking and liked the bubbles.
Emma Simoes, defending, said Smith was a "prolific thief" with 31 convictions from 77 offences but he had not troubled the courts for 18 months.
District judge Gwyn Jones fined Smith £120 in addition to a victim surcharge of £30, £85 costs and £25.96 in compensation to QD Stores.
Following his sentencing, Smith began laughing and was warned by Mr Jones about his behaviour.
