The Friends of Chirk Station were recently helped out by staff from one of the town’s nearby stores.

Four staff members from the Spar store on Church Street got stuck into the task and made a big difference to hellpkeep up the presentation of the station’s surroundings.

Through the store’s charitable trust, the Blakemore Foundation, they also donated £250 worth of plants and gardening products to use at the station.

The donation included a variety of plants, spring bulbs and compost which was given to the Friends of Chirk group, and which the volunteers helped to plant.

Their efforts will be on show for visitors to the station and passengers using the line to see in the spring.

Christine Ashford, a volunteer at the station, said: “We are extremely grateful for the help of the staff at the Spar store and the donations made by the trust.

“It was such a generous donation and one that we very much appreciate.

“We can’t wait for spring now.”

Miss Ashford added: “We would like to thank Paula Thomas, manager at Chirk Spar, and the staff who helped to organise the day.”
