Plans for a 106 bed hotel and adventure attraction at Surf Snowdonia are set to be knocked back.

An application for the hotel and an activity building will go before Conwy’s planning committee when it meets tomorrow.

Andrew Ainscough, the managing director at Surf Snowdonia made the application for the 106 bed hotel as well and a five storey activity building, with the plans set to cost £10 million and bring in 100 jobs.

A a zip wire would also be put up over the surf lagoon connecting the jumping platforms of the proposed indoor activity building, as part of the plans.

The four storey hotel would replace camping pods and would have facilities including a gym, spa, sauna, Jacuzzi, treatment rooms, conference and other function rooms, bar and restaurant.

While there has been support locally with the community council backing the plans Snowdonia National Park has said it objects because it felt the building design is out of character and the size and capacity are excessive.

14 letters have been received by the committee against the plans citing concerns including increased traffic and an over development of tourism in the valley.

There were also six letters of support including one from the county council’s Outdoor Activity Development Officer.

And planners at Conwy have recommended that councillors vote against granting planning permission to the scheme.

They have raised concerns that not enough detail has been included on mitigating the risk of flooding at the site as well as concerns raised by the highways department.

A report before members of the committee concluded: “The initial details in the submission fail to demonstrate compliance with a number of matters including flood risk, drainage, land contamination, ecology, residential amenity, highways and planning obligations. The development should not be approved until associated social and environmental impacts have been fully addressed.”
